Greek Hierarchy unswayed by Ecumenical Patriarchate threats

The Hierarchy of the Church of Greece has not conceded to the threats of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Finally, following the request by many Hierarchs but also by a multitude of clerics, monastics and laity, which in recent time carried out a vigorous criticism on the ecumenical openings by the ecclesiastic leadership, the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece held discussions yesterday and today on the matter of the ecumenical dialogues in view of the Synod of the Joint Dialogue Commission that begins today in Cyprus.
During the discussion in which many Hierarchs took part and which was rather intense, the lack of awareness by the Hierarchy on these matters was especially stressed.
The topic of progression of the dialogue and particularly with the Roman-Catholics was examined and a specific communiqué issued.
Characteristic of the whole topic is that absolutely no condemnation at any point of the communiqué of the Hierarchy was leveled against the article of the Confession of Faith and all the other articles they heard which were critical to ecumenism.
No condemnation, no punishment, no censure against the opponents, which means no response and no concession to the "orders" of the Ecumenical Patriarch.
Characteristic in fact was the statement of the representative of the Hierarchy, the Metropolitan of Nafpaktos, Hierotheos, that "there is no schismatic tendency in the internal affairs of the Church of Greece", in contradiction to what the Ecumenical Patriarch said in his letter.
